国际上规定小字一组的a音每秒振动440次，这个音就是标准音。音列的各音之间存在着一定的数量关系，例如比某一音高一倍的音(高八度)，其频率一定比某音高一倍，低一倍(低八度)则反之，所以规定了标准音的音高，也就等于规定了其它各音的音高。有了这个标准，人们在制造乐器时，在奏乐、唱歌时，定音就有了根据。
